Girls in Tech featured in National Journal, Joining Facebook for Developers’ Garage
Girls in Tech, along with Facebook, was highlighted today in the National Journal as they will be hosting the upcoming Developers’ Garage Hackathon, this Saturday through Sunday. Taking place at Facebook’s headquarters, it is a chance for “developers to code throughout the night and come up with new ideas and concepts.” There will also be a “Women in Tech” influencers’ panel on Facebook Live, 5PM Eastern Time, on Saturday.
This article also mentions the event being brought to mind as it was announced in a letter to Congress on Thursday which Facebook sent in order to emphasize the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education and its necessity to come to the forefront. At present, our Congressional representatives are awaiting the passage by the Senate of the America COMPETES Act, which is a measure that would fund a wide variety of science and technology research projects. Facebook’s announcement of their stance and sponsorship of this event hopes to spur on this legislation.
It is our hope that this event will do just that! — And with the brilliant minds getting together for this marathon hacking session, we feel it should have a great opportunity for doing so.
