Come and join e-signature company DocuSign for an applications Hackathon event May 14th and 15th, 2011 celebrating the opening of their new San Francisco office!  The Hackathon will lead up to the DocuSign Summit, with two days of workshops and sessions on May 16 and 17.  Participants will compete for 35 non-stop hours; with a chance to win four cash prizes totaling $25,000 USD.

DocuSign Chief Technology Officer Grant Peterson said he’s looking forward to innovative applications due to the hackathon. “Developers can go way beyond just sending a document for a signature and enable applications to completely control the end-to-end document process,” Peterson said.

The DocuSign API provides interfaces that enable developers to create standalone applications or integrations allowing external applications to send documents for signature, generate custom forms to collect data, report on the status of transactions, and embed the DocuSign signing process directly into other applications, both cloud and software based.

DocuSign Hackathon prizes:

  • Most Innovative App – $10,000 USD Grand Prize
  • Best Consumer App – $5,000 USD Prize
  • Best Enterprise App sponsored by Box.net – $5,000 USD Prize
  • Best Mobile App – $5,000 USD Prize

Girls in Tech-Facebook Hackathon: and what a night that was!

The Fantastic Pitches

I had the most incredible 24 hours at the Girls in Tech – Facebook hackathon that took place at the Facebook Headquarters in Palo Alto this past weekend. Between the amazing applications that got developed, long lasting teams that came together and endless cupcakes & mimosas, this was one fabulous event.

The event kicked off with introductions from the lovely face of Facebook, Randi Zuckerberg. She was right on the money on how this was the 1st Hackathon with so many well dressed people! Randi’s introductions were followed by talks from Girls in Tech and the Facebook platform team, who walked the audience through the different components of the hackathon & Facebook’s API platform.

Engaging Panels

The highlight of the day was a panel discussion with Facebook Engineering Director Jocelyn Goldfein; Meebo co-founder Sandy Jen; Jennifer Pahlka, founder of Code for America; and Catherine Herdlick, game producer for Electronic Arts, and moderated by Kara Swisher, one of the most engaging moderators around.

Later in the day, the hacking teams got an opportunity to pitch their ideas to the audience and start forming teams based on their ideas and skills they were looking for. Teams started forming in no time and all, and before we knew it people were busy developing incredible facebook apps. Over 65 people actually stayed at the Facebook HQ and coded through the night! Facebook had an endless supply of Kara’s cupcakes, food, coffee & foot thumping music to keep the ideas flowing.

Coding through the Night…

The next day was one filled with anticipation and dreams, as it was time for the final pitches and judging. The judges included Janet Zhou from Blue Run Ventures, Cat Lee of Facebook & Dhana Pawar from Girls in Tech. 19 teams pitched their facebook application ideas & prototypes, and I must admit this was one of the toughest judging gigs for us, where there were just too many great ideas to choose from. However there was only 1st prize, and it was awarded to Kuplia, which was a social shopping application, that demonstrated the best use of the Facebook Social Graph API.

The winner received a check of $2,500 from Intel, and an intimate lunch with the Facebook Platforms team.Yum Yum (food based checkins), vChatter Social River (video chat roulette) & Yell Sesame (social shopping) got special mention from the judges, whereas Don’t Move my Cheese (a hilarious game around cheese) & ExFinder (a place to look up your friend’s ex) were named the most innovative applications

And the Rewards were Sweet!

I think the highest compliment Girls in Tech & Facebook received from the event was from a group of women who cameup to us and said: that this event made them feels like they could achieve anything they wanted!
You can catch the live-streamed event at lhttp://apps.facebook.com/facebooklive/events.php. Also, check out the event’s video coverage All Things Digital & coming soon on Mashable.com.

We are gearing up for the upcoming Girls in Tech – Facebook 24 hour hackathon this weekend. Facebook created a wiki (http://bit.ly/9pV2QQ) where people could post their ideas ahead of time and start forming mini teams based on skills and the flow of ideas. Just by looking at the wiki and the level of attendees, I know it will be a phenomenal event!

Add to that fantastic panelists like Jocelyn Goldfein (Dir. Eng at Facebook), Sandy Jen (Founder Meebo), Jennifer Pahlka (Founder Code for America), Catherine Herdlick (Game Producer at Electronic Arts), and you know its an event you don’t want to miss.

See what Tech Daily had to say about the event: http://bit.ly/bVqO23

Come join us tomorrow by registering at http://facebookdevgarage-git.eventbrite.com/
