From the WordPress Blog…

Just thought we’d update everyone on the news, (in case you didn’t know); so if you use WordPress, you can benefit from this content from the WordPress team:

WordPress for iPhone/iPad v2.6 Released
Posted September 30, 2010 by Jane Wells. Filed under Releases.

Attention Apple-gadget-owning WordPress users! Have you been using the WordPress iOS app for iPhone and iPad? Or maybe you tried it a while back and thought it wasn’t for you? Either way, the new release — v2.6 — will knock your socks off. Why? A bunch of reasons:

  • Video. Record, upload, attach, and play videos within the app. Yay for being able to catch your friends’ and co-workers’ most embarrassing shenanigans creative moments with iPhone video and publish them immediately for all the world to see on your WordPress site.
  • A total rewrite of the way local drafts are handled, to prevent the unintentional loss of your pending posts.
  • Autosave/post revisions. Bam! One of the “oh, thank goodness” features of the web app makes it into the iOS version.
  • Easier setup. Faster and easier process for adding your sites to the app.
  • Media Library. We’re gradually getting closer to the media management you’re used to in the web app.

There are also numerous bug-fixes and performance enhancements in this release, so if you haven’t been using the app lately, you should consider giving it another try. I’m personally pretty excited to start using the iPhone version more often now that there are all these fixes and new features. Especially the video upload. You know, for those creative moments that make life fun.

You can read the full 2.6 release post on the WordPress for iOS blog, and can download v2.6 from iTunes/the app store.  So – Happy mobile blogging!

Fashionistas and Entrepreneurs Unite!

June 30th, 2010

Terra Khachooni

“Now who says fashion isn’t an intellectual discipline?” Jennine asks her readers who are devoted to Coveted. Not many would disagree that there’s much to be said about Cynthia Rowley’s resort collection, or if anyone will be gutsy enough to rock a head dress, and how a buy/sell/trade store can be a treasure chest of finds. Although Jennine advises, “… it’s not worth it to buy used Forever21…even though I have done it.”

She is not a designer at Karl Lagerfeld’s studio writing from lofty industry knowledge. Her honesty, candor, and some self deprecating humor has pulled readers into her world of fashion which is relevant, relate-able, and fun. Her captivating and witty writing style along with her knowledge of the industry (mainly through being a shopaholic and world traveler) makes readers feel like they are like minded fashionistas too with the same realities. “I knew I wanted to wear makeup as long as I could remember, but applying it was always another story.”

Jennine has taken a life long passion and grown it through the beautiful, intricate, and accessible world of technology. The Coveted has been featured on Glamour, IQONs, Modepass, and Pronto and she has since founded the Independent Fashion Bloggers Network. It is what can happen when you combine passion, talent, and technology and it could be you! Fashion Police and Fashion Criminals alike will benefit from learning about Jennine’s path to blogging success.

She has a chronic dilemma though “….muffin top! Every time I wear jeans, it always boils down to a choice between muffin top or saggy bottom.” Jennine’s dedication to denim has inspired another blog called Eat Sleep Denim. Where will this end? What is the future for Jennine? How will she scale her business? I’m excited to find the answers at the Girls in Tech event July 21st. Are you?

A special thanks to our hosts Sandbox Suites, Bay Area’s premier provider of affordable, flexible, on-demand shared office space for entrepreneurs, independent professionals and small businesses.  What better place to corral a group of budding entrepreneurs?

Blogger Spotlight: Jennine Jacob of The Coveted

Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM (PT)

Today is Blog Action Day (www.blogactionday.orgBlog actn day_header-logo_bigger) — an annual event held every October 15 that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. The goal is to spark discussion around an issue of global importance, in particular among those who don’t often write about social issues.

This year’s topic is climate change.  So far, more than 9,500 bloggers from over 100 countries have already registered, including many of the world’s largest blogs such as The Official Google Blog, Mashable, and entertainment blog TMZ (who knew?).  Also, by a surprising effort, even Prime Minister Gordon Brown has even blogged:  (You can read his climate change blog, here: http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page20931.)

Besides showing the solidarity of bloggers around the world, it is also helping out 50 non-profits from World Wildlife Fund to Oxfam and CARE.  …So, if you are still online tonight & want to help spurn on this very relevant and timely social issue, please blog away!

If you are on twitter, also post tweets with #BAD09 hashtag. – www.twitter.com/blogactionday.

You Should be at BlogHer ’09!
Thursday July 23, 2009, Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Chicago, IL.

Now in its third year, the BlogHer Business Conference is an annual crash course on best practices for reaching the most influential and powerful consumers, women online. The social media world is nothing if not rapidly evolving, so BlogHer Business is designed to get you up to speed on the latest techniques, tactics, tools and trends.

They’ve taken in the feedback from past BlogHer Business participants and this year decided that one of the best ways to provide immersion in the Blogosphere is to hold the event immediately before their annual conference, allowing attendees who choose to register for that event as well as the Business event the best opportunity to experience and network with the bloggers.bhbiz09-250

BlogHer Business attendees will join a mix of social media experts, business bloggers, and brand marketers who have experience building campaigns and working in social media environments. As always, they are capping attendance to provide the kind of intimate and interactive environment that has proven to be fertile ground for deal-making and innovative brainstorming.

On the agenda:

*Review of the State of the Blogosphere 2009: BlogHer will deep dive into the results of its latest commissioned benchmark study, focusing on the motivations, influence and shifts in media usage among women online, extracting insights and identifying trends since the previous year’s inaugural study was published.

*Five case study panels, featuring detailed accounts of top brands who have engaged social media audiences. BlogHer Business is unique because they present case studies that look at social media campaigns from a 360 perspective, including the insights of the companies, agencies and targeted bloggers involved!

*Networking breaks and end-of-day cocktail party, where attendees may connect with BlogHer Contributing Editors and speakers at BlogHer ’09, representing the most influential women bloggers out there.
