ReverbNation.com is a remarkable marketing and promotional tool for indie artists that want to manage their careers the way professionals do.
They offer turn-key solutions for online marketing, digital distribution, fan-relationship management and assessment, e-commerce, and more.
ARTISTS CAN MAKE MONEY ON REVERBNATION
1. Digital Distribution – For under $60/year, artists can distribute their music to most major online music retailers. This includes iTunes, iTunes International, Amazon, Zune, Last.fm, Spotify, Rhapsody, Wal-Mart, and many others. Artists get paid for downloads and streams, keep the rights to their music and 100% of their royalties. With this service, artists also get access to free trending reports to determine a return on investment and monitor how sales are performing.
2. Electronic Press Kits – Press kits are a like resumes. Managers, booking agents, and record labels ask for press kits when they want to review or pitch a band. ReverbNation’s press kits are professional, easy-to-use, and inexpensive.
3. Sell Merchandise Online – ReverbNation’s store operates like an on-demand merchandise store (similar to Zazzle and CafePress). This means artists can sell t-shirts, hoodies, and other products without any upfront costs.
4. Song Licensing – Like the sound of securing long-term royalties? With ReverbNation, musicians can submit their music for an opportunity to get sync’d in TV shows, film, commercials, video games, and there’s no submission fee. Currently, this program is only being offered to a select group of artists.

Nice writeup.
I selected ReverbNation because it was so full-featured. I don’t like the way their “Band Equity” works or the fact that their widgets are flash-based and don’t show up on smartphones without flash, but I think it’s a great tool for artists that don’t already have their own social network in place.
Also, the Facebook integration is a real PLUS to going with ReverbNation.

Bill just a tip since you like Facebook integration,
I have used Reverbnation for a while and it works alright. Just wanted to comment on the “Facebook music” side of things there is a great company that does it the best for musicians. They are called RootMusic.com and have an app called “BandPage” for facebook. Brings everything into one page, lets you customize, and the sharing functionality is amazing. Hope that helps,
Jan

Thanks Jan. I’ll check out RootMusic.

Thanks for the writeup, Dimple. The Facebook integration discussion is actually quite timely.
ReverbNation’s facebook app, ‘MyBand’, just got a huge makeover and looks even better than before. And for serious marketers, it does some critical things that RootMusic can’t do, like:
1. Collect email addresses from fans.
2. Provide a storefront and checkout process that lives inside of Facebook (for selling merch and music to fans).
3. Allow fans to share all of the content with their friends via the Facebook sharing widget.
And ‘My Band’ is 100% FREE. Unlimited content, unlimited downloads for fans, unlimited email collection, full use of the product.
To use RootMusic, you need to pay for a separate account at SoundCloud (minimum $35/year to enable just 1,000 song downloads for fans), and you need to also pay RootMusic to have a custom banner on your page.

I don’t think RootMusic will stand the test of time against ReverbNation, Reverb’s too big and quick, they’ve already updated their My Band app with an entirely new awesome look that’s even better than Band Page.

Thanx for the info on ReverbNation updating the MyBand app. We’ve been testing RootMusic for several weeks now, but might get back to MyBand.
Both apps are a great asset for every musician, though!:)

Thanks for the update, Jed! I’ll check that out too.
The Facebook integration is definitely great and you can’t beat the convenience that ReverbNation offers — everything is literally “under one roof.”
