Founded in 2005 by partners, Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, Katalyst film credits include The Butterfly Affect and Guess Who, as well as the upcoming feature film Spread. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who loves to research and write and has an interest in home design and decorating. Interns will have the opportunity to assist with product selection for our articles, produce blogs, research trends in the shelter/home category, fact-check, and help editors with various tasks. PointClickHome is a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The intern will work closely with top editors and wear a lot of hats — there is also potential for short feature writing and great bylines. A basic knowledge of HTML and Photoshop is a plus, but we will accept applicants with no prior web experience who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will be available three days a week. This internship is for college credit. A TRAVEL STIPEND is offered.

Got any “geekternships” that actually involve technology like eg. programming, operating systems, etc? Or that involve science, math, or engineering? Not many of the young geeks I know are into home decor, celebrity news, etc.

[...] see this time and time again. Look at this post about Geek-ternships (a new trend? really?) on the Girls in Tech blog. The only one that mentions any technical skillset [...]

It seriously looks like the words “geek” and “tech” are being used here in a way that’s totally different to the way I’ve always used them and my friends have always used them.

I wonder if this is related to “geek” now being seen as cool/hip/the thing to be – people widen the usage of the word because they want to be included in it? If so, that’s pretty amusing considering how much people tried to prove they were NOT geeks when I was growing up!

Do you folks have definitions of “geek” and “tech” as they’re used here? It could potentially clear up a lot of misunderstandings…
